Each tapestry is handwoven to a unique design, using the same method that has been used to make tapestries for centuries. Working on an upright loom, I weave bundles of fine wool threads, layer upon layer, meticulously building up an image. You can view more of the process here.
The Haven
From the Old English word ‘hæfen’, meaning a place of safety, a refuge or sanctuary; a harbour or other sheltered place.
Nearing the end of its journey towards the sea, the river slows, its shallow waters meandering across the broad floodplain in wide loops, seemingly reluctant to leave. This is the haven, a place of stillness and refuge, a protected place providing sanctuary.

The Leat
And the leat continues to flow. Following the contours of the hillside, holding the spirit of its past, telling the stories of its significance. The winds and seasons have softened its features into a wild and beautiful place and the moor has returned to its unique silence.
Leat - from the Old English word ‘gelaet’ meaning a conduit or a trench and is used to describe the artificial watercourse dug into the ground to transport water to waterwheels.

The Crossing
Every way forward starts with a simple step, followed by another, then another, then another. Each step across the stones is deliberate requiring focus and balance - the river beneath flowing and shifting in a graceful rhythm.
In the silence of the moor, we are enveloped in this cloak of wonder. As the landscape opens out ahead, take a moment to enjoy the journey, and be present.

Cherry Blossom
The delicate blossoms of the cherry tree are the first signs that the warmth of spring is here to stay, while winter makes a quiet retreat. With pops of pink and white, soft clouds of blooms billow across the landscape.
Their arrival stands for renewal as well as the transience of life; as cool winds can ruffle the heavy flower heads sending petals swirling.

Snowberries
Named for its clusters of brilliant white fruit, folklore traditions also call it the waxberry or ghostberry. Believed to protect from evil spirits, in a hard winter the mildly toxic berries are the last resort for wildlife. And yet, the purity of the Snowberry is also a symbol of new beginnings.

The Morning Chorus
From their delicate markings and individual characteristics to their distinct calls in the tree tops or hedgerow, it’s easy to miss the presence of birds around us in the hubbub of the day.
If you are awake shortly before dawn, it’s during the morning chorus that you hear the full breadth of bird song; a wide variety of chirps, trills and peeps. This ‘choir’ accompanies the arrival of the sun, preparing us for the day.
