Bridget Lane tapestry weaving

About me….

I am a weaver specialising in hand woven tapestry, based in London, UK.

Having worked in book publishing for several years, I enjoy passing on stories to readers. Through my travels for work, I have been privileged to meet generous individuals who introduced me to different worlds and cultures. While visiting an exhibition of contemporary tapestry weaving, my eyes were opened to a different way of communicating stories.

Influenced by the forms and styles of late Modernism, my work explores landscapes and untamed spaces, both physical environments and internal states. Balancing abstraction and natural rhythm, the woven thread conveys an essence of the most basic elements, of colour, line and form to evoke a quiet sense of place.

I aim to challenge traditional boundaries and encourage a reassessment of tapestry as a vibrant, relevant medium within contemporary art.

After having studied tapestry weaving at West Dean College of Art and Conservation and since winning the Cordis Prize Showcase for Emerging Artists, I have exhibited work in the UK and Australia. I’m a selected Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and you can find me on the Craft Council Directory and Find A Maker.

My weaving practice is balanced with teaching tapestry classes, helping others develop their own journey in woven textiles.
